Weekly Download: Photoshop Patterns, Series 3 25 tiling paper and fiber textures By Dave Nagel This week we present our third--and hopefully best--collection of patterns for Adobe Photoshop, with support for versions 7 and CS. This time around, the patterns are designed to produce texture effects over images, to help create the illusion of fibrous backgrounds, wrinkled paper and canvas textures. All of the patterns are 200 x 200 pixels and designed for seamless tiling to be used either as Pattern Overlays or Pattern Fill Layers.

The patterns

Our collection this week includes 25 individual tiling patterns for Photoshop. Unlike previous pattern collections we've posted, the ones in this collection have all been rendered as close to neutral gray as possible. Why? I want you to be able to use the patterns as overlays. They are, after all, material textures and can therefore be used simply to add a little depth to an image without overwhelming it. They can also be used in concert with the previously discussed Displacement effect for creating the appearance of crumpled paper or simply to add a little more depth to your composition. (You can read about the Displacement effect here.

All of the patterns in this week's collection fall into the categories of crumpled/wrinkled paper, fibers and canvas-like textures. All are repeatable tiles created at 200 x 200 pixels. Since they've been created in a desaturated RGB mode, they will work well using Multiply, Screen, Soft Light or Hard Light blending modes when applied either as a Layer Style or a Fill Layer. Here are some examples of the patterns used as Pattern Overlays with some brush strokes from previous collections.

These patterns were created in Photoshop 7 to ensure compatibility with both Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS on Macintosh and Windows systems. Read on for download and installation instructions. And remember, you can find links to all of our previous downloads in our Features archive.
